Edmonton breeds a certain kind of person, never-the-less blogger. That’s what separates Edmonton bloggers from the rest!

Edmonton is the kind of city that is so close knit, it’s a small world where everyone knows each other and/or their sibling’s best friend – and I’m so glad it reflects into the Edmonton blogger community.

Even though Edmonton has long winters and too short of summers, we make it work! We’re all chasing the sunlight and using the most creative tactics to create our content.

I love following all these inspiration people on Instagram, not just for their style or gorgeous photography, but because they inspire the YEG community. Community over competition!

So starting from the top left, in a clockwise fashion, here are 10 must-follow Edmonton bloggers:

7 Edmonton Mom Bloggers You Need To Know

Did you know Edmonton mom blogs are evolving – thanks to the modern moms behind these blogs, the industry of mommy blogs are changing!

Lifestyle Fashion Mom Bloggers From Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

What used to classify a mom blog was you blogged about your children and the experience of parenting. That was the niche.

Even though I have 3 daughters now, I have never described my blog as a mom blog – Honey & Betts is a lifestyle blog. And the category of “lifestyle blog” where mom blogging is merging.

What is the difference?

I do not write exclusively about my children though being a mom is a big part of my life but it doesn’t completely define me – it’s one piece of the puzzle. I write about style, beauty, food, travel, home decor, and so much more. I share my life, as a 24 year old woman living in Edmonton, Alberta – which includes my growing family.

And that’s what I find with this round-up of wonderful women who also happen to be moms and bloggers. I can’t speak for all of them, but I don’t think they would also describe themselves as Edmonton mom bloggers either.

So here are a few mamas that I love following on Instagram and reading their blogs:

Christal, Nutrition In The Kitchen

Kassanda, Kastles

Kira, Northern Style Exposure

Kristina, Kristina Lynne

Orane, Orane Boucher

Hannah, Honey & Betts

Top 8 Edmonton Fashion Bloggers | Leading The Fashion Scene In Northern Alberta

Who Knew Fashion Bloggers Could Survive Freezing Temperatures

Edmonton is often written off in the fashion blogger scene because of it’s extreme north location and it’s simple prairie “vibes”. Many local residents do not realize the fashion influence these bloggers have on our province and country – and don’t appreciate the great lengths Edmonton fashion bloggers go through to chase the winter sun for the perfect style shot and not freeze to death in minus 40 degrees.

From the top Edmonton fashion blog, Hannah from Honey & Betts, shares the best 8 Edmonton fashion bloggers and their Instagram accounts. From innovative fashion, to trendsetters, to boho chic there's something for everyone!

In no particular order, here are some of my favourite Edmonton fashion bloggers and friends:

Kira, Northern Style Exposure

Vicki, Adventures In Fashion

Diana, 204 Park

Lyndsey, Over My Styled Body

Kassandra, Kastles

Sandy, The Pretty Secrets

Alyssa, Ordinary People

How To Start A Blog | How To Choose A Blog Name | The Story Behind The Edmonton Lifestyle Blog Honey & Betts

Whenever I meet other bloggers or people who read my Edmonton lifestyle blog, Honey & Betts, I’m frequently asked “what is the reason behind the name Honey & Betts?” – and it comes back to how and why I started my blog 4 years ago. If you’re considering starting a blog, figuring out how to choose a blog name is a very important, strategic and personal decision!

Hannah, from the popular Edmonton lifestyle blog Honey & Betts, shares how to choose a blog name you won't regret when starting a blog in 2019. And the meaning of her blog Honey & Betts' name!

So, when I started my original blog (it was named something else that Honey & Betts, but I can’t remember the exact name) I did a lot of research of what goes into blogging and starting a professional, successful blog before my sister and I decided upon Honey & Betts.

Although some blogs are in a specific niche – like gluten-free food blogger or drugstore beauty blogger – I love to write and photograph a lot of different things (skincare, makeup, food, local businesses, fashion, motherhood, travel, baby product reviews, and a lot more) so I didn’t want to make my blog’s name back me into a super specific niche.

Because if a super specific niche blogger writes something outside their niche Google/Pinterest doesn’t really like it. It’s hard for them to be successful outside that niche.

Which is another obstacle for lifestyle bloggers like myself – it’s harder to get domain authority and be successful on your site because your content is all over the place. But that doesn’t mean you can’t do it!

Anyways, back to how to choose your blog name and how I chose Honey & Betts!

My sister and I really liked Stella & Dot at the time, and how they used their grandma’s names “Stella” and “Dot”. But after trying that structure with our own grandma’s names, it didn’t roll off the tongue the way we wanted it to. So, we tried my husband’s grandma’s name – Betty – with “honey” because my sister was constantly calling people “honey”. But Honey & Betty didn’t roll off the tongue either! That’s when it morphed into Honey & Betts.

Why did I settle on Honey & Betts? Because it didn’t narrow me down into a super specific niche, when you read the words Honey & Betts blog for the first time you have no idea what niche I am in, and that’s the way I want it. I had to work for years to build into my brand, dive into my blogging and local community, and create content that my readers could trust and be interested in.

And that’s how it all began and here’s where I am now!

If you have any questions on how to choose a blog name you won’t regret, feel free to ask below in the comments!

The 5 Best Hashtags To Connect With Edmonton Moms

I know how hard it is to make mom friends, especially if just moved to Edmonton or any city, but the beauty of social media is that it’s super easy to connect with moms in Edmonton or anywhere around the world! One of the ways I connected and found new Edmonton moms to be “Instagram friends” and then eventually real life friends is through local YEG hashtags.

The popular Edmonton lifestyle blog, Honey & Betts, is sharing how to make new friends in Edmonton especially mom friends for new mothers. From the best local YEG hashtags to connect online through Instagram to how to use hashtags. Check it out!
If you’re not a hashtag savvy, this will be groundbreaking for you to connect with other Edmonton moms!

Hashtags, if you have no idea how they work, bundle your Instagram posts with other people who have used the same hashtag. And it doesn’t just limit yourself to finding other moms in your area – if you’re looking for Edmonton restaurant inspiration, or to find a new Edmonton blogger to follow, or to discover local Edmonton small businesses to support – hashtags will connect you with whatever your heart desires!

The best Edmonton hashtags are not even all “motherhood” oriented either, it’s about getting to know the city of Edmonton and eventually you’ll find moms or women who you connect well with online.

The best hashtags to connect with Edmonton moms are:

Of course, there are always people you don’t want to be liking or commenting on their posts (like boudoir shoots, international men, and spam MLM accounts) using these local hashtags too so be aware that not everyone is an Edmonton mom who is using that hashtag – just don’t engage with them and move on. You’ll see what I mean eventually!

#yegmoms

#yegfoodie

#yeglocal

#yegbiz

#edmontonmoms

What I also love about using hashtags on Instagram is that you can follow the hashtags individually so that if someone publishes an Instagram post with that hashtag you will see it in your main Instagram feed.

I find it helps me connect even more with moms in Edmonton when I have limited time to go out to the playground (because who wants to go to the playground in the middle of winter), mom groups, play groups, or your child isn’t in school yet.

I cannot stop raving about the explosion of Edmonton’s patio scene this year – I feel like last year there was only the common spots like O2’s rooftop patio and Craft’s rooftop patio that were available for outdoor summer dining.

But there are only so many times you can switch back and forth between those two locations…

Through a friend I had excitedly heard that Central Social Hall was renovating their entire Jasper Avenue place (which looks fantastic by the way – the bathrooms are phenomenal with the giant flower walls and floor-to-ceiling mirrors) and opening a brand new patio.

It’s like they knew what a blogger‘s dream patio looked like! Those pink umbrellas stole my heart away the second I saw them.

The staggered landings help the layout feel open and not overcrowded with the tables. Even though you’re on Jasper Avenue your conversation is not drowned out by the street noise because you’re elevated off ground level.

I was so happy my Edmonton blogger gals could join me for my last hurrah before this baby arrives next month! We were treated to a tasting of their brunch and cocktail/mocktail menus – they recently revamped their entire Central Social Hall menu, and now are using the freshest and local ingredints in all their dishes.

The menu no longer offers frozen, ready to go pub food but now serves innovative, contemporary meals that are delicious! We tried:

Cricut Explore Air 2 Review | How To Use For Beginners

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Cricut. The opinions and text are all mine.

If you’re a beginner at DIY projects, then this Cricut Explore Air 2 review is for you! I went to an arts school as a kid, and I give credit to those school years of my life that helped me get in touch with my creative, artsy side. When I received the Cricut Explore Air 2, found exclusively at Walmart, I was extremely excited to explore what DIY projects I could create!

As a beginner DIY-er I have not used a Cricut product before – I knew the Cricut Explore Air 2 could cut and draw on paper – but once I uploaded the Cricut App and scrolled through the amazing project tutorials, I realized how much more it can do!

Hannah, from the popular Canadian lifestyle blog Honey & Betts, shares her experience reviewing the Cricut Explore Air 2 and how to use the Cricut iPhone app for easy and fast designs to organize your home with vinyl labels!

The first project I wanted to create was a vinyl label for my simple syrup for my morning lattes.

If you are subscribed to my newsletter or follow me on Instagram, you know how much I love coffee – it feels amazing when I can make a better latte at home than at the local coffee shop!

I’m going to take you through my Cricut Explore Air 2 review and how I made my silver vinyl labels!

#1. Download the Cricut Design App or use the Cricut Design Space program on your computer!

Hannah, from the popular Canadian lifestyle blog Honey & Betts, shares her experience reviewing the Cricut Explore Air 2 and how to use the Cricut iPhone app for easy and fast designs to organize your home with vinyl labels!

I am intrigued by technology – from baby products, to gaming systems, to crafting supplies. I think it is amazing the strides and inventions people create year to year. So, when I was able to use the Cricut Design App to design the vinyl label I wanted, then use wireless Bluetooth to connect my phone to the Cricut Explore Air 2 machine to make the design I was floored!

It was easy and simple for me to choose a font, choose the size and send that information to the Cricut Explore Air 2. The app will give you prompts and reminders to make your product the best it can be.

#2. Set the Cricut Explore Air 2 dial to the correct material.

Looking for making your own iron-on t-shirts, baby onesies and other clothes? Check out Hannah's. from the Edmonton lifestyle blog Honey & Betts, close up review of the Cricut Explore Air 2 and a awesome beginner DIY vinyl label for mason jar tutorial!

The new Cricut Explore Air 2 has a gorgeous champagne dial that lists all the possible materials it can cut or draw on: poster board, bonded fabric, cardstock, light cardstock, iron-on, vinyl, paper, custom. There are so many things you can make with this amazing machine!

If you are a beginner or an expert, it is always recommended you check the Cricut website for the recommended blade and machine mats for each material. The blade for poster board is going to be very different than the blade for vinyl – same goes for the machine mats.

3. Follow the Cricut Design App instructions and let the machine do it’s thing!

The prompts on the app will show you how to insert the machine mat, what buttons to press (it helps a lot that correct buttons blink when it’s time to press them). I love using Fast Mode for making my vinyl crafts time-efficient!

Once the Cricut button is pressed just watch how smooth and speedy the blade is guided over the vinyl. And before you know it, it’s finished! Tada!

#4. Peel your project off the machine mat and remove the negative area of your project.

Remove the negative area of my project? What does that mean? The Cricut Explore Air 2 has cut the letters into the giant piece of vinyl, so to see the letters you need to peel the vinyl that will not be adhered to your vinyl Cricut project.

Tip: you can use tweezers to remove the negative space of your project, or use the recommended Cricut Weeder.

#5. Apply to a clean, dry surface!

Looking for a cute way to label your mason jars? Hannah, from the popular Edmonton lifestyle blog Honey & Betts, shares her easy Cricut Explore Air 2 designs for mason jar labels on her amazing simple syrup recipe. Now you can have 2 ingredient simple syrup available at home!

As I did research into how to make Cricut vinyl stick to glass, I started to get nervous. Many bloggers posted tips and tricks to make the vinyl decals stick to glass, but it required materials I did not have on hand.

I followed the vinyl instructions on the Cricut packaging, and it worked well! I hand wash this glass jar and I haven’t had any issues with the vinyl peeling or falling off.

I cannot wait to explore and share all the holiday and organizational Cricut vinyl projects for beginners I have planned for you! As someone who isn’t super crafty, I love this thing. I have been making cards, decorations, and labels like crazy.

Plus, if you were watching on Instagram Stories when I unboxed the Cricut Explore Air 2 Matthew is hyped for making custom t-shirts with the iron-on material and EasyPress 2! Keep your eyes peeled for that review coming soon!
