Food Guide To Central & Downtown Edmonton

Where are you going to eat tonight in Edmonton? If you’re looking for your next supper out, date night, or girl’s night – check out my list of Edmonton restaurants in this food guide to Central and Downtown Edmonton!

Good food brings us together – family, friends, and strangers! Here in YEG we have plenty of great Edmonton restaurants downtown!

I love that Edmonton is the smallest world ever and it doesn’t really hit you until you start talking to someone in line or beside you and realize you know someone in common. And yes, people in Edmonton really do just chat up strangers while waiting in line!

Hannah, from the popular Edmonton lifestyle blog Honey & Betts, is sharing her food guide to YEG! From sweet to savoury, check out your next date night restaurant.

I am on a mission to serve you a food map of Edmonton. Whether you are interested in chai lattes, chicken and bacon waffles, macarons, or pizzas – there is something for everyone!

Here is your Central & Downtown Edmonton Food Guide:
  1. Central Social Hall | 10909 Jasper Avenue | One of my favourite brunch spots because they always have room with their eating area and gorgeous patio! My favourites are the Beautiful Salad, The Cure, and their Chicken & Waffles. I also love that Central opened another location in the heart of St. Albert, so I never have to be without it!
  2. Glow Juicery | 7911 104 Street | A classic juicery that is always collaborating and creating new healthy foods! Glow is a Canada wide business that has a handful of locations in Edmonton. I personally love the Blue Majik Lemonade.
  3. The Common | 9910 109 Street | Chicken & Waffles. That is all I have to say. But there is so much more to The Common than it’s food – the whole place is a mood. The decor, the DJ set, the bar, the patio. And I’ve heard it’s a great place to dance and enjoy music on the weekend!
  4. Pip | 10403 83 Avenue | If you’re looking for a great brunch spot off of Whyte Avenue, you need to try Pip! While I’ve only had their delicious brunch – I know it’s highly millennial of me to rave about their avocado toast, but it’s just so good – I’ve heard their dinner menu is just as amazing!
  5. DOSC | 10190 104 Street | DOSC screams glam when you walk into it – not gaudy, over-the-top glam but old money glam. They have two sections in the same open area, the Drunken Ox restaurant and Sober Cat cafe (get it? DOSC?). The dinner menu is divine, I highly recommend the brussel sprouts and gnocchi. I can speak highly for the lattes in the cafe too, except for their chai lattes. They are not up to my standard for living in Edmonton where chai lattes are taken seriously.
  6. Cacao 70 | 10430 82 Avenue | If you are in the mood for something sweet, you need to run over to Cacao 70! Originally Cacao 70 opened up a little pop up vendor in Kingsway Mall’s Community area that served their decadent specialty chocolate dipped cones before the expanded into their 3 locations in Edmonton (Whyte Avenue, Ice District, West Edmonton Mall). There are multiple concepts to the restaurant – Sweet House (extravagant waffles, sundaes, and specialty ice cream cones), Dip Shop (specialty ice cream cones), and Eatery (bistro menu, and all the sweets).
  7. The Holy Roller | 8222 Gateway Blvd | A blogger’s/photographer’s dream to photograph – I cannot even describe the interior, it’s so many design themes in one! I’m a huge fan of charcuterie and the one I had at The Holy Roller was awesome!
  8. Juniper Cafe & Bistro | 9415 87 Street | I had the privilege of testing out this hidden Edmonton gem during a tour of local Edmonton restaurants for the YEG Home Show – and their desserts are to die for. It’s not a delicate piece of cake or pie, it’s a hardy serving of the best freshly made desserts! I highly recommend trying the angel food cake with whipped cream and strawberries if it’s available!
  9. Love Pizza | 10196 109 Street | Another favourite of mine because , just like Central Social Hall, they also opened another location in St. Albert so even though I’ve moved out to the burbs I never have to go without Love Pizza! If you live in Edmonton and haven’t had the chance to support the Love Pizza team, and enjoy their delicious menu or make your own pizza – it’s a must!
  10. Blue Plate Diner | 10145 104 Street | Sometimes you don’t want crazy meals, you need a home cooked meal that you didn’t cook yourself – you know what I mean? That’s when you head to the Blue Plate Diner! They make the best breakfast and dinners that make you feel cozy and good inside. Plus it’s the perfect location if you’re looking for brunch or lunch on a Saturday during the Downtown Edmonton Farmer’s Market.
  11. Sorrentino’s Cafe & Bistro | 10665 109 Street | Sorrentino’s also wears many hats – from catering, to cooking classes, to fine dining, to cafes and bistros! I have nothing poor to say about them, they have delicious Italian food and great service!
  12. Remedy Cafe | 8631 109 Street | Anyone else remember the original Remedy? The narrow and deep location beside the video store? Can we have a round of applause for how much Remedy has grown from then to now! Remedy Cafe has the ultimate chai lattes – this is the standard, for some it’s too sweet but it’s about the depth and richness of the actual flavours. That’s how a chai latte should be! You can find 6 locations around the Edmonton area – all locations are the perfect spots to have chai dates, study, relax, people watch. It is always so busy and I love that this restaurant that is so close to my heart is thriving!
I know there are so many more restaurants I haven’t touched on but keep your eyes peeled as I begin a second list of the best restaurants in Edmonton!
