How to create a herb garden in an apartment? I have been wanting to create a herb garden for a while, but living in the city and especially in a downtown apartment there are a few key elements that we would need for a herb garden to work. It needed to be: small, a hanging planter, and be able to be transferred inside once it became too cold.
So I checked out the nearest gardening store and found these pods for growing plants from seeds – and I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to not only create a herb garden in an apartment but to teach my toddler how plants grow from seeds!
We chose basil, cilantro and garlic chives for our first time planting herbs. While I was at the store these germinating/transfer pods caught my eye. I also saw them at Canadian Tire for $3 if you live close to a Canadian Tire location. I figured the germinating pods would make the germination process and transfer of the seeds to the planter even more successful.
Once we followed the instructions (adding water to the the pods, pressing the seeds into each pod, covering the pods with the lid) we waited a week for the seeds to sprout.
We dug little wells for the pods, and it was so simple to transfer them in to the planter. I am thrilled with the outcome, and cannot wait to start cooking and creating with my new fresh herbs. You can find all the supplies we used here:

I love this little garden we made! It provides fresh herbs for our favourite family recipes!
This year I have dedicated myself to learning to cook better and exposing my kids to a grander array of foods from all over the world. Because I love delicious food, and I want to be able to eat it at home too. I can’t eat chicken nuggets and grilled cheeses for my whole life!
I highly recommend checking out the Yum & Yummer Cookbook if you are looking to expose your family to new, fresh foods! It’s also beginner friendly!

I LOVE gardening!! I haven’t had as much success when I have started from seed though. Also, I have never seen those pods – what a neat way to do it!
