I treasure the family videos from my childhood – but that was the 1990’s when everyone had a handheld video camera. I tried toting around my DSLR camera to capture videos of my kids but it wasn’t practical, the process of uploading the videos to my computer or phone was too much. There had to be an easier way how to make family videos on your phone!
That’s when I started capturing small video clips on my iPhone of my babies, toddlers, and big kids. It became effortless to make simple candid family videos with these simple step below.
Here are my 8 steps to making quality family home videos on your phone:
Take 30 second to 1 minute clips throughout the year of special events and everyday moments with your kids and family on your phone while in landscape mode (holding your phone horizontal).
Save all of the videos clips for 6 month increments, then add the short video clips into your video editing app, I use iMovie.
Rearrange the video clips in chronological order in the video editing app.
Adjust the transition edits between the videos to your preference, I prefer the clean cut, no transition option between my video clips.
Save the video to your phone, then AirDrop the large combined video to your laptop (AirDrop is applicable for Apple products, utilize email between phone and computer otherwise).
Plug your external DVD burner into the USB port of your computer. The appropriate program should pop up on your computer when the DVD burner is attached to your computer.
Select the large video files you want to burn onto the blank DVD disc. If it rejects your file, it’s too long of a video, and you will need more than 1 blank DVD. You can split up your large video into 2 videos in the editing app to accommodate the space available on each DVD.
If you have questions on the process and always reach out in the comments or find me on Instagram to message me! I hope this helps you record candid moments with your family that you can enjoy in years to come.
Do you already capture family videos? Do you prefer family videos or family photos?
I want to shed light on the community of St. Albert and where you can buy hot chocolate bombs in St. Albert – where I live! We’ve been raising up small businesses who craft the trendiest holiday treat of 2020, hot chocolate bombs! Thank you to everyone who has been supporting these amazing Edmonton Area shops and our Alberta families in these tough times. What a community we have here!
If you’ve been sent on a goose chase to find these hot items, hot chocolate or cocoa bombs, you’re in the right place!
A hot chocolate bomb is a shell of chocolate, usually in the shape of a sphere, that has hot chocolate mix and mix-ins inside of the chocolate shell. You place the cocoa bomb into a cup of hot milk or water, watch it melt, and stir it up for a delicious warm drink!
Here are 2 places to buy hot chocolate bombs in St. Albert:
It seems like hot chocolate bombs in St. Albert sell out really fast so if the vendors don’t have any available make sure you give their pages a quick like on Facebook so you can be the first to know when they have new stock!
We might as well find where to buy hot chocolate bombs in all the cities in Alberta! We started with where to find hot chocolate bombs in Edmonton and then where to find hot chocolate bombs (or cocoa bombs) in Calgary – because how amazing is it to support small businesses, reduce shipping costs, and the carbon footprint by ordering hot chocolate bombs in the city that you’re sending it to! Sounds pretty awesome to me. So keep reading to find 7 places to buy hot chocolate bombs in Grande Prairie!
If you don’t know what a hot cocoa bomb is, it’s a chocolate shell filled with hot chocolate mix and different mix-ins depending on the flavour (from simplistic to complex!). You put it in a mug of hot water or milk, and it slowly melts and you stir it for a wonderful Christmas experience in your cup! It’s great for all ages!
Here are the 7 places in Grande Prairie to buy hot chocolate bombs:
I feel like a broken record, but supporting small businesses this year and next year and all the years after directly affect the families in our communities. It’s always worth supporting growing businesses!
Be sure to check out all the unique and delicious flavours each shop carries for hot chocolate bombs – there is something for everyone! My favourite is the peppermint hot chocolate bombs, there is nothing more Christmas-y than pairing peppermint and chocolate. Yum!
What hot chocolate bomb flavour would you like most? Simple, straight milk chocolate? Or a more colourful flavour? Let me know in a comment below!
It’s not a bruise nor a burn under my eye – my skin is simply so sensitive that if I use a new beauty products (skincare or makeup), and it doesn’t agree with my skin then my body reacts within 24 hours. This big ol’ patch of dry, red skin is left behind as a result of trying out a new product. In this post I will share how to cover up red skin with makeup, keep reading!
It’s a blessing and a curse – on one hand I don’t waste weeks or months using a products to find out it causes deep pimples or dry skin. But on the other hand, it sucks when I forget about my sensitivity and am “influenced” by my favourite beauty accounts only to severely react to the product they love. It’s not their fault! It worked for their skin, it just didn’t agree with mine.
Typically it would be easy to wait it out, applying diaper cream and healing ointment to my reaction – but when I feel like I want to try out makeup to hide the redness of my skin, I have to use the products I know are gentle and hydrating.
In a perfect world I would love to be able to use only non-toxic makeup on my skin, but over the years I have found that the non-toxic makeup industry is still a child in comparison to drugstore options. I’ve been hard pressed to find a non-toxic color correction concealer and setting spray that is available in Canada. I’m still hoping the natural beauty industry keeps up the momentum and produces more and more options!
But how and what products did I use to cover up my redness? Check out my how to cover up redness steps below:
I was gifted this MAC Strobe CreamPrimer at a MAC blogger event, and I love it. I have enjoyed it as a base between my makeup and skin this Summer, but it’s proved its worth this Autumn when my skin loses so much hydration from the weather. It has no silicone feeling and it has little to no fragrance, which is always exciting!
A little green is going to a lot for any redness! If you’re not already color correcting red blemishes or skin, or brightening under eye circles – do your research! Every skin tone is going to have a different suggestion for colour correcting. My biggest skin concern is redness or red blemishes, so I use the NYX Green Concealer and then blend it out a little.
Especially if my skin is having a flare up of redness or dryness, I use the Beautycounter Tint Skin. It does not have the best coverage, but it is the first liquid foundation that I didn’t break out with. It provides a lot of hydration from the hyaluronic acid in it, and that helps calm my red inflamed skin if I want to wear makeup.
Now onto something with more coverage, my Maskcara Beauty IIIDFoundation Palette. I have been using Maskcara palettes for 7 years and it is my go-to for everyday makeup and special occasions. It gives me a flawless complexion and it’s gentle on my skin. My palette includes the highlight foundation, contour foundation, highlighter, and cream blush. They always have amazing Black Friday sales, so make sure you keep an eye out for their sale and stock up!
I’m still trying to figure out if my new it Cosmetics CC cream is the culprit to my red skin flare up, but when I put in my order they sent a free Brow Power penciland now I am obsessed with it! It is the perfect shade for me and the application is light so it is buildable to sculpt your brows.
And last but not least (and it doesn’t have anything to do with hiding redness from your skin) but applying my favourite two mascaras! The combination of these two mascaras keep my lashes lifted and separated all day – no clumps! First I apply Benefit’s Roller Lash and then I use CoverGirl’s Lash Blast in waterproof. I dare you to try it, and tell me what you think!
Discoloration is nothing to be ashamed about! It happens to younger and older women, but finding products that help you feel confident is what matters!
I hope this how to cover up red skin tutorial helps you in the future, and maybe you find some of your favourite makeup products for dry skin.

I can tell it is mixed emotions for a lot of parents heading back to school with their kids this year – whether you are distance learning, in school, or homeschooling – we are all choosing the best path for our own families. The world is a little different this fall, but I’m going to share a few back to school Cricut projects I’ve been working on for my kids! A cool personalized retro graduating t-shirt for kids and a custom modern backpack decal with the Cricut Explore Air 2 and the new Cricut EasyPress Mini.
I love how the Cricut machines and the Cricut Design Space App are versatile and easy to use. As a result I can create any DIY project that pops into my head!
When I graduated, which feels like a long time ago, the trend was to wear grad year shirts for group shots with friends. This year I wanted to create a beginning of school photo that my kids will be able to recreate when they graduate grade 12! They will wear Cricut Iron-On retro inspired grad shirts with their graduating class years on them (the year 2033 feels so far away!) because then it will be a super cute throwback photo one day.
Then I am going to upcycle a plain backpack that I’ve had for years that my oldest child who wants to use this year. I’m going to modernize the backpack with Cricut Metallic Iron-On material and use the Cricut EasyPress Mini to apply them.
Retro Graduating Year T-Shirts For Kids Tutorial
Step One: Personalize The Design On Cricut Design Space
First off, download the Cricut Design Space app onto your iPhone or iPad to personalize your child’s graduation year (use a calculator is you need assistance with the math!). It’s super easy to adjust, you can find this design here!
Step Two: Use The Cricut Explore Air 2 To Cut Design
Using your Cricut Explore Air 2 machine, connect your device with bluetooth to start cutting design. Make sure the dial is set to “Iron-On” and that the design is mirrored on your Cricut Design Space app! When you put the iron-on material make sure the shiny side is facing downward onto the cutting mat.
For these retro graduation class shirts I used the Cricut Everyday Iron-On in these colours: wine, parchment, mustard, and orange.
The parchment is the frame of the design. Then the letters are created with wine, mustard, and orange.
Step 3: Weed The Design
Weeding the design means to take a Cricut Weeder and remove the negative space that you do not want to iron-on to your shirt. Weeding is so easy with the right Cricut accessories! It is super satisfying to see the cool design come to life.
Step 4: Time To Layer And Use The Cricut EasyPress 2
The Cricut Blog recommends a maximum of 3 iron-on layers for the best durability of your iron-on design. Therefore to create the retro design I layered the orange first, then applied the wine, and lastly the mustard sticking to their 3 layers rule.
For these iron-on colours I thought a white cotton shirt would be the best backdrop for the design to stand out on.
Before I started I consulted the Cricut Heat Guide to find out the best time and temperature to use the Cricut EasyPress 2. It asks you what type of iron-on material you’re using, what material you are ironing on to, and if you are using a Cricut EasyPress Mat or a towel underneath your project.
For this project I used 155 degrees celsius (315 degrees Fahrenheit) for 30 seconds. Then flip the shirt over and press for 15 seconds more.Peel off the see-through part when it is cool.
Do the same prior steps for the next layers. I offset the 2nd and 3rd layers (wine and mustard) of lettering by 1-2 cm diagonally.
The last layer was the parchment frame around the letters. It was easier to see a more accurate placement for the frame after the letters were applied rather than apply the frame before the letters.
Voila, that is how I create the first back to school Cricut tutorial! If you make these or a variation of them make sure you send me a picture or tag me in a post so I can see your beautiful creation!
Easy Modern Metallic Dots Backpack Decals Tutorial
Step One: Open Design On Cricut Design Space App
You can find the exact design I used here on the Cricut Design Space app! The dots are the perfect size for creating a cute pattern on your backpack.
Step Two: Use Cricut Explore Air 2 To Cut Design
This dot design is simple enough that I used the fast mode on the Cricut, it cuts precisely and makes cutting 24 little circles easy!
For this project you do not need to have the designed mirrored before you cut, but make sure the gold iron-on material has the shiny side face down.
Step Three: Weed The Design And Cut The Dots To Be Individual
Using the Cricut Weeder remove the negative space around the dots – it should come off in one giant piece. Then cut the dots to be on individual squares with scissors. Cutting the dots into individual pieces will make it much easier to apply them where you want them to go on the backpack!
Step Four: Use The Cricut EasyPress Mini And Apply The Metallic Dots Evenly Over The Backpack
I consulted the Cricut Heat Guide again and indicated that I wanted to use the Cricut EasyPress Mini with Everyday Iron-On onto a polyester surface. It recommended that I use the medium heat setting for 25 seconds, then turn over the bag to heat it for 15 seconds on the other side, and peel it off when it is still warm.
I evenly applied the metallic dots over the front of the bag, and it turned out super cute! It was such an easy project that I definitely want to do it on more of our plain backpacks.
I hope you find some back to school DIY inspiration for this year from these two Cricut tutorials!

It’s back to school season! The only time of the year that you are required to scour the city or internet for velcro shoes with white bottoms…
I’m sure you’ve realized it’s back to school season since everyone is either complaining about bussing or school supplies being sold out or having to pack lunches again…and by everyone I mean me!
The one thing I made sure to leave to the end of the summer and right before Annaliese goes back to school is to buy her indoor shoes that require white bottoms (so they don’t scuff up the school’s floors). I waited for the perfect time because there are double cash back deals happening with Rakuten Canada right now – so I searched for the cutest girl’s Velcro shoes with white bottoms and here is what I found!
Another trick or motherhood hack (that will hopefully save you money) that I learned last year is that you should find a spot, like your family calendar, to write down all your kid’s shoe sizes and measurements. That way when the label is worn out on the tongue of the shoe you will know what the last size you ordered for your kid.
Also, learn from my mistakes by always checking each retailers size chart. Do not assume that each brand has the same size guide!
Personally, I love the boho shoes from Gap but last year I bought Annaliese the unicorn shoes and she is adamant to have them again in a bigger size this year. She’s her mother’s daughter – a creature of habit!
Where are your favourite places to buy cute velcro shoes with white bottoms? Do you buy in-store or online?
