I am naturally person that thrives on routine, and while I know not everyone prefers to have their days mapped out, it’s a must when you have a new baby or have more than one kid.

Obviously, it is hard to find your own routine with taking care of your children and yourself, but it can be done! It all starts with figuring out what things you are flexible on and what things you want to prioritize.

Below you’ll find my daily routine – that includes my 6 month old babies sleep and feeding schedule, and my toddlers sleep and eating schedule.

I am a Canadian lifestyle blogger and have the flexibility to work when I want to – which is an amazing blessing when I was freshly postpartum trying to find my footing in the huge amount of doctor visits, immunization appointments in the first 6 months.

Everyday there is flexibility to my morning and afternoon routines, and the 3 things I try to prioritize for taking care of myself every day is reading my bible, working out, and showering. But there are always days that one or two do not happen because of impromptu events or appointments – it’s all about going with the flow!

Morning Mom Routine With 4 Kids

  • 6:30-7:00 AM – Wake up and nurse baby
  • 7:00-7:30 AM – Kids eat breakfast, and get ready for school
  • 8:00 AM – Bus drop off
  • 8:15-9:00 AM – Breakfast for mom, playtime for kids and baby
  • 9:15 AM – Nurse and naptime for baby
  • 9:30 AM – Snacktime for toddler and preschooler
  • 9:30-10:00 AM – Reading and quiet playtime for kids, bible reading and coffee for mom
  • 10:00-10:30 AM – Activity time (play dough, rice sensory bin, colouring, printing books), and free time for mom to work or relax
  • 10:30-11:00 AM – 1 or 2 educational kids shows (our favourite Netflix kids shows include Wild Kratts, Ask The Story Bots, PJ Masks, Octonauts, Charlie’s Colorforms City, and Super Why)
  • 11:00 AM – Baby wakes from nap and nurses
  • 11:30 AM – Lunch time for toddler and preschooler
  • 12:00 PM – Naptime for toddler

Afternoon Mom Routine With 4 Kids

  • 12:00-1:00 PM – Playtime for preschooler and baby, mom works out at home and gets ready
  • 1:00PM – Nurse and naptime for baby
  • 1:00-2:30 PM – Activity time for preschooler, and free time for mom to work or relax
  • 2:30 PM – Baby and toddler wake up from naps
  • 3:00 PM – School pick up
  • 3:30 PM – Nurse baby
  • 3:30-5:00 PM – After school chores, playtime for kids, mom starts preparing dinner
  • 5:00 PM – Dinner, baby eats baby cereal
  • 5:30-6:00 PM – Clean up, playtime
  • 6:00 PM – Baby nurses and bedtime routine
  • 6:30 PM – Kids bedtime routine
  • 7:00-11:00 PM – Free time for relaxing and/or working for mom

For my schedule, my 6 month old baby currently takes 2 naps for a total of 3 hours during the day and 12 hours at night. We have been introducing baby cereal for the past month, and as soon as I start to increase the amount (little by little) the amount of nursing session will decrease.

I hope you find my stay at home mom schedule inspiring for figuring out your own! Having a schedule is not only great for me, but it helps my toddler and preschooler be able to become independent with playtime and preparing for the future in kindergarten.

The Advance Guide For Caring For Indoor Fiddle Leaf Fig Bush

Are you contemplating caring for an indoor fiddle leaf fig bush? I was not a plant person before I purchased my first fiddle leaf fig bush two years ago, I was afraid of how fiddle leaf figs have a reputation of being sensitive so I purchased a cheap, damaged one from IKEA and nursed it back to health. Since then I have added two more gorgeous fiddle leaf figs to my home. It is harder to keep them alive indoors in colder climates like Canada, but it can be done! You will learn how to help your fiddle leaf fig grow many new leaves, how often and how much to water, and the secret to a healthy plant. These are my experiences with growing three fiddle leaf fig bushes from different retailers in Edmonton, Alberta.

Is your fiddle leaf fig tree or bush not growing? After separating the two fiddle leaf fig trees that shared a root ball, I took careful steps to separate them without killing them and minimized the trauma to the plants. Check it out!

Your guide to a thriving fiddle leaf fig bush in colder, drier environments and how to address fiddle leaf fig problems. Before you read the rest, check out my more in-depth blog post here for fiddle leaf fig beginners that goes into all the aspects of a healthy fiddle leaf fig.

The skinny on caring for an indoor fiddle leaf fig bushes in Canada:

South Facing Window

A key component to a healthy fiddle leaf fig is to have it in a south facing window, or a window with all day indirect sunlight. This is best for the winter months with limited sunlight.

Watering Once A Week

Depending on your plant size, pot size, and amount of sunlight – but all across my fiddle leaf fig bushes, I water them once a week to allow drying between watering.

Liquid Fertilizer

For the lack of humidity and warmth, I use a liquid fertilizer mixed into the weekly watering. Less in the winter when the plant is dormant, and more in the summer during growing season.

Pruning Shrivelled Or Broken Leaves

Using a sharp, disinfected pruning sheers or knife to cut the leaf close to the trunk of the fiddle leaf fig. There will be a white liquid that oozes out of the cut afterwards, leave it to dry out.

It is completely normal for fiddle leaf fig bushes to come in pairs when you purchase from your local IKEA or greenhouse (if you live in Edmonton I highly recommend Salisbury Greenhouse for healthy fiddle leaf figs), and if you need tips on how to separate the two plants into two pots – let me know and I will create a post on how to separate your fiddle leaf fig bush and minimize the trauma to the plant.

What Are The Best Beautycounter Products For Dry Skin?

I haven’t shared any Beautycounter products in a long time – with good reason after I quit selling Beautycounter as a consultant, you can read about that here. I decided to finally get back on the horse and share what are the best Beautycounter products for dry skin.

Over the past couple years I have continued to use Beautycounter skin care products mixed with other amazing safer beauty products – and I always want to share the best skin care products for those who also have extremely dry, sensitive, acne-prone skin like me!

First off, if you have dry skin and you are chatting with a Beautycounter consultant – double, triple check what products they are recommending to you. When I first started as a consultant, I knew a lot about what worked for my skin and what didn’t. But when I chatted with other new consultants they were constantly asking in the Consultants Facebook groups on what to recommend to their new clients.

There is a list and checklist of Beautycounter products that the head office or up-line consultants have created for new consultants to refer to, you can find most thing consultants use by searching it in Pinterest, but I found a few of the typical recommended Beautycounter skin care products for “dry skin” made me breakout even worse. And once I stopped using them, my skin cleared up!

Be your own advocate in everything!

Thankfully, my skin reacts immediately (within a few days of use) so I can back track what products I switched or added in and stop using them. But many new and experienced consultants always recommended to their clients to use the products for 3 weeks and then if it really wasn’t working for them then they would assist them in returning it.

If I went by their advice, my skin would be a mess for 2-3 weeks before thinking “Hmmmm maybe this product isn’t for me”. Like I said, advocate for yourself!

Looking for the best Beautycounter products for dry skin? Hannah, from the popular Canadian lifestyle blog shares her favourite safer skin care products that will help heal your flakey, scaley, dry skin. Don't worry about wrinkles and hormonal acne, check out Hannah's recommendations here!

Here are the skin care products I recommend for dry skin:

  1. Charcoal Cleansing Bar: This is my favourite cleanser to use after working out, it cleans my skin while detoxing it too. I do not use this bar every day – I found it dries out my skin too much. You can read here what my regular skin care routine is for morning and night time.
  2. Counter+ Charcoal Facial Mask: Another awesome post-workout skin care cleanser after you use the Beautycounter charcoal cleansing bar – but in moderation. If you know your skin is sensitive or on the dry side I recommend cutting the wait time in half. The bottle recommends 10 minutes, I usually keep it on for 5 minutes. That’s a rule I use for most skin masks to make sure my skin isn’t red and irritated afterwards.
  3. Counter+ No. 1 Brightening Facial Oil: If you live in a dry location like Edmonton, Alberta, this face oil is a life saver! Doesn’t matter if it is summer or winter, I use this moisturizing and brightening facial oil year round. I find 1-2 drops into your moisturizer is plenty, compared to the Beautycounter recommendation of 3-4 drops.
  4. Essential Nourishing Collection: I use the Beautycounter Nourishing Day Cream and Night Cream daily, and the rest of the line sparingly if needed. Overall this skin care collection does not make my skin flare up or break out at all, which could be the solution for you too!
  5. Lip Conditioner in Peppermint: I cannot communicate how much I love this lip balm! While I wish they would put it in a tube or twist-up container, I can look past the jar Beautycounter has put it in. It’s a hefty price, but once you try it you’ll be hooked too.

Keep your eyes peeled for an upcoming blog post on the worst Beautycounter products for dry skin!

7 Thoughtful Non-Baby Gifts For New Parents

Parenthood is wonderful. Parenthood is difficult. Parenthood is a huge adjustment. I’ll be honest, baby registries are great but if you know a mom-to-be that is hard to buy for here are some amazing, thoughtful non-baby gifts for new parents!

One of the best gifts that my parents gave me were: in the first week of having my new baby my MIL came over with groceries and cooked us beef dips and banana bread. I sat with my new baby and relaxed, I didn’t realize how valuable that afternoon was but I know it now.

And then in the first month I had a really bad cold one night, and my mom came and did a night shift with my little baby. I had pumped breast milk for her to bottle feed, and I was able to finally get the rest I needed to beat my sickness.

Looking for unique gift ideas for new moms? Hannah, the popular Edmonton blogger for the blog Honey & Betts, shares the best non-baby gifts for new parents who have everything. These are gifts for moms that will help them rest and relax with their new baby.

Both were such amazing gifts to receive as a new mom! In light of those unique gift ideas I have 7 gifts to give new parents:

1. Surprise them by cleaning their house and cooking them dinner!

2. Visit them! Bring baked goods and coffee, hold their baby, and talk with them.

3. Drop off meals – breakfast, lunch or dinner. Have you ever tried frozen blueberry pancakes? They are easy to reheat and enjoy with all their favourite toppings!

4. If you are the grandma, do a night shift with pumped milk! A solid nights sleep is a wonderful gift.

5. If they have older kids, take their kids for a sleepover or dinner date.

6. Skip The Dishes or Amazon gift cards!

7. Shovel their walk way (in the winter) or walk their dogs.

It’s also a blessing for you to know when to leave, you don’t want to be the one who over stays – depending on how low maintenance you are as a guest. I’ve had high maintenance guests over when I was freshly postpartum that I mentally made sure to meet outside my home so I could have some control over when I could leave.

If you suspect you are a high maintenance guest, there are a few things you can do to be a better guest to a new mom – bring your own coffee (or even better, like said above, bring some for everyone), get your own glass of water, if there is something you need please be comfortable enough to get it yourself. Let the new mom in your life rest and relax.

There are mixed emotions when it comes to my babies sleep – on one hand I want to get into a good nap and sleep routine as soon as possible, but on the other hand I know that during the first 6 months of my baby’s life they go through many developmental leaps and that affects their sleep.

One of the early good sleep habits I tried to get into was swaddling my baby at night, but once your baby turns 3 months old you are not supposed to swaddle them. This is because 3 months is the average age a baby can roll from their back to their front, and if their arms are swaddled they are not able to turn their head if they have rolled to their tummy. It’s a recommendation for safe sleeping, and to decrease the amount of SIDS cases.

So what do you do when your baby turns 3 months old? And swaddling your baby is no longer an option?

It’s time to introduce your little one to a sleep sack!

Here are my 3 tips for finding the best sleep sack for your baby:

  1. Tog. Is your baby’s room drafty? Do you need a winter sleep sack? Or a summer sleep sack? Tog is a measurement for the thickness of the sleepsack, which can range from 0.5 tog to 2.5 tog for baby sleep sacks. For my baby’s, we live in an older home so the rooms with more outer walls seem to be colder than others. I use a 2.5 tog sleep sack from October to February, and then use a 1.0 sleep sack for the Spring and Summer months.
  2. Sleeves or no-sleeves. I prefer no-sleeves sleep sacks because it’s easier to get my squirmy baby’s arms into it – there are convenient snaps at the top of these 2.5 tog sleep sacks for quick changes! Trust me, the snaps at the top are quite handy when you have a tired, cranky baby.
  3. Zipper placement. It’s a no-brainer that baby sleep sacks would have zippers versus buttons – but depending on if you have a mischievous little one who likes to unzip them self out of their sleep sack, you may want to purchase a sleep sack with the zipper to the side. Grobag has two zipper placement options – the front or the side.

I hope this helps you in your journey to finding the best sleep sack for your baby! All babies are different in sleeping habits, some sleep through the night early on and some babies take up to 1 year before they can sleep without waking. This is a sponsored Cricut EasyPress 2 review conversation written by me on behalf of Cricut. The opinions and text are all mine.

I am grateful for all of you who reached out saying how much you loved my Cricut Explore Air 2 review. As a beginner at crafting and DIY projects, making iron-on shirts and custom baby onesies is by far my favourite Cricut project! And I can’t wait to introduce you to the Cricut EasyPress 2 that will take your iron-on designs to the next level – here is my Cricut EasyPress 2 review and how to make a custom baby onesie tutorial!

I love custom baby onesies! You can make Halloween onesies, Christmas onesies, Birthday onesies, onesies for pregnancy announcements, monthly milestone baby onesies, the possibilities are endless!

Using the Cricut EasyPress 2 is extremely easy and the Cricut website has many resources for what temperature and how long to set the timer for for different iron-on materials going on different fabrics. They have made it fool-proof for all the beginner DIY-ers out there, like myself!

Here is how to use the Cricut EasyPress 2 for the best results for a custom baby onesie:

1. Use your Cricut Explore Air 2 and the Cricut Design App or Cricut Design Space computer program to design your graphic.
Looking to start a new custom t-shirt business or to make custom graphic shirts for gifts? Hannah, from the popular Canadian lifestyle blog Honey & Betts, shares her favourite way to use her new Cricut EasyPress 2! Check out her first time using the Cricut EasyPress 2 and what she recommends for DIY beginners.

Read more about how to use the Cricut Explore Air 2 here. The prompts for executing your gorgeous design will remind you that the images need to be mirrored or reversed. On the app finding the mirror option is difficult so for the first few designs I simply flipped the image and the text horizontally in the “edit” section of the app.

**Tip: The prompts will also remind you that the shiny side of your iron-on material (check out all the amazing colours and textures they offer for iron-on projects) needs to be face down, and the matte side should face upward.

2. Cut out design and remove negative space.

Using a pair of tweezers or the Cricut Weeder tool, remove all the negative space of the iron-on material.

3. Lay out and arrange your design on the baby onesie as you vision it, then set it aside.

I have this online tool saved in my favourites on my phone because it is so handy! It has two sections to fill out, and with the correct information it will tell you the temperature and time you need. Plus, it tells you if you need to remove the backing of the iron-on material when it is still warm or cool.

5. Using the Cricut EasyPress Mat, preheat your baby onesie!
Hannah, from the popular Edmonton lifestyle blog Honey & Betts, shares her review of the Cricut EasyPress 2 and how to make an adorable baby onesie for gifts. Check it out!

The EasyPress mat is designed to protect your table from heat damage. It’s super easy to use, but if you do not have a EasyPress mat a folded towel can deliver the same results. Preheat the garment you are going to use to a) iron out any wrinkles in the fabric and b) to make your iron-on design transfer for the best results.

Once you have the proper settings for your Cricut iron-on project and your design is placed where you want it on your baby onesie – place the EasyPress 2 on top of the onesie and press the Cricut button to start the timer. If you are layering different pieces for your design, check out this Layering Technique page before so!

Once the beeper tells you the timer is done, you will flip your onesie over and iron it from the back. You will press the Cricut button again and start the timers countdown.

Then ta-da! My iron-on project required me to remove the backing when my project was still warm, and it came off effortlessly.

Doesn’t this adorable, custom made onesie look adorable on my baby Thaddeus! I cannot wait to make more baby boy onesies throughout his first year!

The first project I wanted to create was a vinyl label for my simple syrup for my morning lattes.

If you are subscribed to my newsletter or follow me on Instagram, you know how much I love coffee – it feels amazing when I can make a better latte at home than at the local coffee shop!

I’m going to take you through my Cricut Explore Air 2 review and how I made my silver vinyl labels!

#1. Download the Cricut Design App or use the Cricut Design Space program on your computer!

I am intrigued by technology – from baby products, to gaming systems, to crafting supplies. I think it is amazing the strides and inventions people create year to year. So, when I was able to use the Cricut Design App to design the vinyl label I wanted, then use wireless Bluetooth to connect my phone to the Cricut Explore Air 2 machine to make the design I was floored!

It was easy and simple for me to choose a font, choose the size and send that information to the Cricut Explore Air 2. The app will give you prompts and reminders to make your product the best it can be.

#2. Set the Cricut Explore Air 2 dial to the correct material.

The new Cricut Explore Air 2 has a gorgeous champagne dial that lists all the possible materials it can cut or draw on: poster board, bonded fabric, cardstock, light cardstock, iron-on, vinyl, paper, custom. There are so many things you can make with this amazing machine!

If you are a beginner or an expert, it is always recommended you check the Cricut website for the recommended blade and machine mats for each material. The blade for poster board is going to be very different than the blade for vinyl – same goes for the machine mats.

3. Follow the Cricut Design App instructions and let the machine do it’s thing!

The prompts on the app will show you how to insert the machine mat, what buttons to press (it helps a lot that correct buttons blink when it’s time to press them). I love using Fast Mode for making my vinyl crafts time-efficient!

Once the Cricut button is pressed just watch how smooth and speedy the blade is guided over the vinyl. And before you know it, it’s finished! Tada!

#4. Peel your project off the machine mat and remove the negative area of your project.

Remove the negative area of my project? What does that mean? The Cricut Explore Air 2 has cut the letters into the giant piece of vinyl, so to see the letters you need to peel the vinyl that will not be adhered to your vinyl Cricut project.

Tip: you can use tweezers to remove the negative space of your project, or use the recommended Cricut Weeder.

#5. Apply to a clean, dry surface!

As I did research into how to make Cricut vinyl stick to glass, I started to get nervous. Many bloggers posted tips and tricks to make the vinyl decals stick to glass, but it required materials I did not have on hand.

I followed the vinyl instructions on the Cricut packaging, and it worked well! I hand wash this glass jar and I haven’t had any issues with the vinyl peeling or falling off.

I cannot wait to explore and share all the holiday and organizational Cricut vinyl projects for beginners I have planned for you! As someone who isn’t super crafty, I love this thing. I have been making cards, decorations, and labels like crazy.

Plus, if you were watching on Instagram Stories when I unboxed the Cricut Explore Air 2 Matthew is hyped for making custom t-shirts with the iron-on material and EasyPress 2! Keep your eyes peeled for that review coming soon!
