I honestly couldn’t braid my hair by myself until I was 15 years old, my mom always did it for me! But after lots of practice braiding I can say I thoroughly enjoy it – besides the fact that my arms get very tired after 5 minutes, anyone else get tired braiding arms? Well thankfully, this step-by-step bubble braid tutorial doesn’t make your arms tired!
For this bubble braid tutorial you’ll need mini elastics, I prefer the clear ones but any mini elastics will do!
Here are my 7 easy steps to creating this double bubble braid look:
#1 Part Your Hair
First, part your hair as you like – for wearing a hat I prefer a middle part – and pin back two front pieces that you’ll curl afterwards.
#2 Split One Side Into Two Pieces
Split into two equal pieces, and tie the back piece with an elastic.
#3 Split, Bring Forward, And Tie
Split the front piece into two equal sections and bring the back piece through the two front pieces. Use an elastic to tie the two pieces together, they now form a new “back piece”.
#4 Continue Splitting, Pull Through, And Tying
Continue the same splitting of the front piece into two equal sections, bringing the back piece through the two front pieces, and tying the two pieces together with an elastic. You may end up using 5-10 tiny elastics on each side depending on your length of hair.
#5 Secure The End And Pull Apart
When you’re at the end of your braid use an extra elastic to secure it. Then the fun part begins! Gently pull at the sides of your braid to loosen it, to give the effect of a bigger and thicker braid.
#6 Repeat On The Other Side
Repeating the same steps above, braid the other side of your part.

#7 Curl The Front Pieces
Take the two front sections you pinned at the beginning, and use a flat iron or curling rod. I like to mess up the curls and spray dry shampoo afterwards for a bit of texture. And ta-da! You’re done creating your bubble braids!
What is your favourite style of braids? What’s your level of braids – beginner, pretty good, or pro?
